September 19. God Who Looks Down from Heaven

 

"All have turned aside, and they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one." – Psalm 14:3

 

 

Here, David shares a sentiment later echoed by Isaiah 53:6: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his way." History depicts humanity as beginning with fellowship with God in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:15). However, sin disrupted that fellowship (Genesis 3:6). Since then, the human race has been on a downward path, moving away from God. In this verse, David portrays humanity as "corrupt." This is translated from a Hebrew term, 'black , meaning "rotten, putrid, or decayed," emphasizing moral perversity or depravity.

 

Because of this corruption, no person can do any deed that an omnipotent, omniscient, all-good God would consider truly "good." God created humans to glorify Him, but since sin entered humanity, individuals have chosen to go their own way and do their own thing. Far from glorifying God, they glorify themselves. Daniel 4:29–30 reveals that while Nebuchadnezzar was walking on the roof of his royal palace, he boasted, "Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?" That self-glorification led to his humiliation (Daniel 4:31–33).

 

The first consequence of denying God's existence is the moral corruption of man (Psalm 53:1). It is the same kind of moral corruption. "God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways" (Genesis 6:12). The deeds of a man who denies God's existence grow to be detestable, and the man becomes unable to do good.

 

The description of sin that the Apostle Paul offers in Romans 1:18-3:20 describes the disposition of a God-denying person. Human beings cannot know themselves until they know who God is. We devastate one another and destroy the earth's beauty, yet we do not realize it is all because we have denied our God. There can only be self-annihilation when God's grace and providence are rejected. The Psalmist emphasizes the supernatural attributes of God, saying, "God looks down from heaven on the sons of men" (Psalm 53:2). 

 

When God looks down on the earth, he looks at man. The LORD God says that He "looks to see if there are any who understand, and seek God" (Psalm 53:2). When we have the right heart, we can know the truth and find that the foundation for truth is God Himself. However, God's perspective differs from our own. Psalm 14:3 tells us, "All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one," pointing out the disobedience towards God. 

 

When we abandon the knowledge of God, we also abandon the knowledge of ourselves and our lives. As a foolish man does not seek after God because he denies the existence of God, a foolish man also does not understand the two greatest commandments: " 'Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself'" (Luke 10:27). Surely, the power of Satan and darkness overcome us when we disobey and oppose God. Therefore, a man living without recognizing God's presence and commands is foolish.

9월 19일 하늘에서 보시는 하나님

 

“다 치우쳤으며 함께 더러운 자가 되고 선을 행하는 자가 없으니 하나도 없도다” - 시 14:3

 

 

 

다윗은 이사야 53:6의 “우리는 다 양 같아서 그릇 행하여 각기 제 길로 갔거늘”의 말씀을 통해 받은 반향의 감성을 시편 14편에서 함께 나눕니다. 역사는 에덴 동산에서 시작된 하나님과 인간의 교제의 관계를 설명합니다(창 2:15). 그러나 인간의 죄는 하나님과의 교제를 파괴하였고(창 3:6), 그후 인간은 하나님을 떠나 제길로 가게 되었습니다. 다윗은 여기서 인간을 "함께 더러운 자"로 묘사하고 있는데 이 단어는 히브리어 '알라흐'에서 "썩은, 부패한, 또는 탁락한"이라는 의미가 있고 도덕적 타락과 부도덕한 부패를 강조하는 말입니다. 

 

이러한 인간의 부패 때문에 전지 전능하시고 선하신 하나님 앞에서 인간은 선을 행할 수가 없습니다. 하나님은 인간의 창조를 통해 영광 받기를 원하셨지만, 죄가 인류에 들어온 이후 인간은 자신만의 길을 가며 자기의 일만을 선택하였고 하나님께 영광을 돌리지 않고 자신의 영광을 추구하며 살아가고 있습니다. 다니엘 4장 29-30절에서 느부갓네살왕은 자신의 왕궁 지붕 위를 걷다가 "내가 능력과 권세로 건설하여 나의 도성으로 삼고 이것으로 내 위엄의 영광을 나타낸 것이 아니냐”라고 자랑했다고 밝히고 있습니다. 그는 나중에 자기 영광은 굴욕으로 바로 이어지고 하나님의 심판을 받았습니다(단 4:31-33).

 

인간이 하나님의 존재를 부인하는 첫 번째 결과는 도덕적 타락입니다(시 53:1). 인간의 도덕적 부패는 하나님을 부인하는 것입니다. "하나님이 보신즉 땅이 부패하였으니 이는 땅에서 모든 혈육 있는 자의 행위가 부패함이었더라”(창 6:12). 하나님의 존재를 부인하는 사람의 행위는 점점 가증스러워지고 선을 행할 수 없습니다.   

 

바울이 로마서 1:18-3:20에서 하나님을 부인하는 사람의 죄의 성향을 자세하게 설명합니다. 인간은 하나님이 누구인지 알기 전까지는 자신을 알지 못합니다. 우리는 서로를 황폐하게 만들고 지구의 아름다움을 파괴하면서도 이것이 하나님을 부인했기 때문이라는 사실을  깨닫지 못합니다. 하나님의 은혜와 섭리를 거절하면 인간은 스스로 소멸당하게 됩니다. 하나님의 초자연적 속성을 강조하고 있는 시편 기자는 "하나님이 하늘에서 인생을 굽어 살피사 지각이 있는 자와 하나님을 찾는 자가 있는가 보려 하신 즉” (시 53:2)이라고 말합니다. 

 

하나님께서 땅을 내려다보시며 사람의 마음을 살펴보십니다. 하나님은 "지각이 있는 자와 하나님을 찾는 자가 있는지” (시편 53:2) 보기 원하십니다. 마음이 바른 사람은 진리의 근원을 찾는데 그 진리의 기초가 바로 하나님 자신인 것입니다. 그러나 하나님이 보시는 관점은 우리의 관점과 완전히 다릅니다. 시편 14:3은 "다 치우쳐 함께 더러운 자가 되고 선을 행하는 자가 없으니 하나도 없도다” "라고 말하며 하나님에 대한 인간의 불순종을 지적합니다.  

 

인간이 하나님의 지식을 포기하면 인간은 자아 지식과 삶에 대한 모든 지식을 포기하는 것입니다. 어리석은 사람은 하나님의 존재를 부인하고 하나님을 찾지 않고 하나님의 두 가지 큰 계명을 이해하지 못합니다. “네 마음을 다하며 목숨을 다하며 힘을 다하며 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하고 또한 네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라”(눅10:27). 우리가 하나님께 불순종하면 사탄과 어두움의 권세에 압도당할 수밖에 없습니다. 그러므로 하나님의 존재와 임재, 그리고 그의 명령을 깨닫지 못하고 사는 사람은 참으로 어리석은 사람이 되고 맙니다.
