"So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer." – Ezra 8:23

“그러므로 우리가 이를 위하여 금식하며 우리 하나님께 간구하였더니 그 응낙하심을 입었느니라” – 스 8:23  

 

There were dangers for Israelite travelers in this desert land: enemies were in the way, and bandits were waiting (Ezra 8:22,31). The journey was not a short one; in all, it took them four months. During that time, it was necessary to feed and protect this company of men, women, and children, and to guard the significant quantity of gold and silver they were carrying. It was only natural that Ezra should have requested a military escort. However, this was not his way, for he had told the king, "The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek Him; but His power and His wrath is against all them that forsake Him" (Ezra 8:22). 

이스라엘 백성들이 지나는 길에는 길을 막고 해하는 적들과 산적들이 숨어 기다리는 위험한 여행이었습니다(스 8:22,31). 이것은 짧은 여행이 아닌 전부 4개월의 여행이었습니다.  에스라는 남자와 여자의 무리와 아이들에게 먹을 것을 책임지고 있었고 상당한 양의 금과 은을 보존하고 있을 책임 때문에 왕에게 군사적 호위를 요청하는 것이 당연히 필요했습니다. 그러나 에스라는 그렇게 하지 않았고 그는 왕에게 “우리 하나님의 손은 자기를 찾는 모든 자에게 선을 베푸시고, 자기를 배반하는 모든 자에게는 권능과 진로를 내리신다 하였으므로”(스 8:22)라는 하나님의 대한 신앙을 가지고 있었습니다.  

 

Faithful words such as these are not to be spoken rashly, and Ezra was not such a man. He had counted the cost and knew that his God could protect them. However, it cannot be I and God or even God and I. It must be all God, and so they fasted and humbled themselves before their God to seek of Him a right way: "I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of Him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and all our substance" (Ezra 8:21).

이러한 믿음의 말은 급히 해서는 안되는데, 에스라는 그렇게 말하는 사람이 아니었습니다.  그는 드는 비용을 계산하고 하나님께서 보호하실 수 있다는 것을 알았습니다. 그러나 이 일은  하나님과 개인적으로 해서는 안되는 일이었고 하나님께서 모든 일을 하셔야 했습니다. 그래서 그들은 하나님 앞에서 금식하며 겸손히 간구했습니다: "그때에 내가 아하와 강 가에서 금식을 선포하고 우리 하나님 앞에서 스스로 겸비하여…. 평탄한 길을 그에게 간구하였으니”(스 8:21). 

 

Fasting is not a form of flagellation; we cannot destroy the flesh through fasting. Rather, fasting results from putting the flesh in its right place, a place of death. What need is there to feed a dead man? Fasting can be a conscious decision; however, unless the right Spirit accompanies it, it will only exalt the flesh as monasticism does. In the Gospel of Mark, we read of "prayer and fasting" (Mark 9:29) — it speaks of dependence on God and separation from the world. This is not a formula; it describes the state of the soul. With Daniel, we see such a man (Daniel 9:3). We can hardly say that we are dependent on God when we are friends with the world. On the other hand, separation without dependence on God leads to self-glorification, as with the Pharisees.

금식은 자신을 괴롭히는 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 금식으로 육신을 자학할 수 없습니다.  금식은 육신을 죽은 자와 같이 대하는 것입니다. 죽은 자에게 음식을 줍니까?. 금식을  의식적이고 가식적으로 할 수 있지만 올바른 영성을 가지고 금식하지 않으면 수도원의 금식처럼 육신을 위한 금식이 됩니다 마가복음에서 기도와 금식(막 9:29)에 관한 말씀을 칮아보면 하나님을 믿고 의지하는 것과 세상을 떠나는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 이것은 어떤 공식이 아니라 영혼의 상태를 묘사하고 있는 것입니다. 다니엘이 그러한 사람이었습니다(단 9:3). 만일 우리가 세상과 친구가 된다면 하나님을 의지한다고 말할 수 없고 하나님을 의지하지 않고 세상을 떠나는 것은 바리새인들처럼 자기 영광만 추구하게 됩니다. 있습니다. 

 

Fasting is among the most effective yet least understood or utilized spiritual disciplines. Fasting denies us food, drink, or other things to draw us closer to God. In Matthew 6:16, Jesus affirms the importance of this discipline by saying, "When you fast, not if." The human body benefits from some types of fasting, although our stomachs may complain a bit. The key to successful fasting is to know why, how, and how long to fast. 

금식는 가장 좋은 영적훈련이지만 가장 많이 이해가 없이 사용하는 훈련 중 하나입니다. 금식은 하나님께 가까이 나가기 위해 일정 기간 동안 식음을 전폐하거나 어떤 것들을 거절하는 행위입니다. 마태복음 6:16에서 예수님은 금식에 관해 금식 훈련의 중요성을 강조합니다. 금식으로 사람의 육신에 약간의 유익이 있을 수 있지만 몸의 일부분인 위장의 불편을 가질 수 있습니다. 성공적인 금식은 금식의 이유, 방법 및 기간을 아는 것입니다.

 

There are many reasons why people fast. Some leaders in Biblical times fasted as an act of repentance. A contemporary businessman fasted for three days to seek the LORD about a critical decision. Christine fasted for ten days to pray for a failing marriage. A missionary in India once fasted from food for forty days to seek a spiritual breakthrough in reaching his Muslim neighbors. Some believers fast one day a month to focus their attention on God.

사람들이 금식하는 이유에는 여러 가지가 있습니다. 성서시대에 일부 지도자들은 회개의 표시로 금식했습니다. 어떤 사업가는 하나님의 뜻을 구하는 중대결정을 위해 삼일 금식 했습니다. 크리스틴이라는 여성은 결혼 생활 실패 때문에 열흘 동안 금식했습니다. 인도의 한 선교사는 무슬림 이웃들에게 다가가는 영적 돌파구를 찾기 위해 40일 금식한 적이 있습니다. 어떤 신자들은 단지 하나님의 뜻에 집중하기 위해 한 달에 하루를 금식하기도 합니다. 

 

The how of fasting must fit the individual's situation. Some fast from all foods; others eliminate indulgences like chocolate or sweets. Others eat only vegetables or drink only juices. Some even fast from using the television or the telephone. The final critical aspect is to know how long it will take. By asking the LORD, you'll be equipped with a strong answer when the devil tempts you to quit early. 

금식의 방법은 개인의 상황에 맞아야 합니다. 어떤 사람은 음식을 먹지 않거나 어떤  사람들은 초콜릿이나 과자와 같은 것들을 금하고, 어떤 분들은 야채만 먹거나 주스만 마십니다. 어떤 분들은 텔레비전이나 전화를 사용하지 않습니다. 중요한 것은 얼마나 오래 하는지 아는 것입니다. 사탄이 그만두라고 유혹할 때 기도함으로 계속할 수 있어야 합니다.
